Engine and performance
The
concept model of the Taigun is powered by 1.0litre
TSI engine with 110 bhp. The three cylinder engine has been upgraded by adding direct
fuel injection and turbocharging technology. The engine delivers a peak torque
of 175 Nm at a low 1500 rpm. The model in India may be fitted with a1.2
litre engine and the diesel variant too is expected to be powered by 1.2
litre power-train that produces 75 bhp.
The engine is expected to be mated to a 6-speed manual or the optional DSG
automatic transmission. The 985 kg Taigun claims a fuel efficiency of 22 kmpl
and an impressive top speed of 185 kmph. The SUV touches the 100 kmph mark in
9.2 seconds.
Exteriors
In
terms of styling, the Taigan has a nicer stance than the Tiguan and Touareg.
Blessed with Volkswagen family lineage, the Taigan sports side panels and
roof-rails. The car is 3859 mm long, 1778 mm wide and 1570 mm tall. Its edgy
design with large grille and its high road clearance give it a tremendous road
presence. The tail gate is a two piece affair for easier loading and more
flexibility. The all LED headlights and 17’’ alloy wheels, all add to its
charm. All in all, the exteriors give a sophisticated and powerful look to the
compact SUV.
Interiors
The
interior looks smart and simple. The three dials on the smooth flowing
dashboard look sporty and the touch screen interface that controls functions
like blue-tooth connectivity, audio player etc are present. The infotainment
system of the car is compatible with almost all types of smart phones. The
interior is spacious and offers comfortable ride for all occupants. There is
plenty of room for luggage as well. The head room of 1036 mm in the front and
980 in the rear ensures comfortable seating for 4-5 passengers. The Volkswagen
Taigun looks promising thanks to compact structure.
