The compact MPV, Chevrolet Spin, is designed to the meed the needs of the demanding MPV market. The new Chevrolet Spin, which shares the platform and structure with Chevrolet Cobalt sedan, is expected to hit the Indian market soon. Poised to take on the likes of Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Xylo, the new MPV would be priced between Rs. 8 to 10 lakh.

Engine and performance

The car comes in two variants- LT and LTZ and is expected to equipped with 1.8litre 4 cylinder Econo Flex engine with two fuel availability The motor produces a maximum power of 108.5bhp (ethanol) and 106bhp (gasoline). However, the car can be fitted with diesel engine as well. The engine is mated to either five speed manual or six speed automatic transmission. The1.8 L engine would be expected to be efficient and refined on roads. The engine has a plastic exhaust manifold and a new resonator that has low noise and impressive torque distribution. The motor also boasts of GM’s state of the art drive-by-wire system that gives faster response during acceleration. Acceleration and fuel efficiency are expected to the engine’s strength. The manual model is expected to deliver 15kmpl.

Exterior

Chevrolet Spin has got all trappings of a modern exterior. The styling is impressive with the large hexagonal grill in front and other contemporary touches. The side sweeping headlamps, large front bumper and the chrome around the grille are easily noticeable. The side lines and belt line give it a rugged appeal and the car comes with sporty roof rails, chunky tail-lamp cluster and a small rear bumper. The high roof-line increases the space inside.

Interior

The LT variant is a five seater where as the LTZ model has a third row and accommodates seven passengers. The seat configuration is similar to that of Ertiga . However, the car is more spacious because it is longer and wider. The two tone instrument panel has silver finish and chrome accents. The car features sporty instrument cluster, steering mounted controls and attractive central console with integrated audio system for the high end variants. Ac, power windows, ABS with EBD, twin air bags are among the common features where as features like auto-cruise, trip computer and reversing sensor are optional.

Features and specifications

The safety features are standard even on the base models. Chevrolet Spin focuses on comfort and stability, which are among its strengths thanks to the well-adjusted suspension. The ride, handling and build quality are exceptionally good. The impressive torque distribution ensures comfortable performance on roads. The car has a boot capacity of 162 litres which can be increased to 710 in the five seater mode. It also has long wheel base of 2620 mm.

With a high level of efficiency and comfort, Chevrolet Spin offers a fine MPV worth the money.
